Same here, letting dekeratinization happen on its own is the better way. You probably already have enough skin, so just pull that up and over your glans, fix it there temporarily and do your day. The tissue change you want, ie "shiny", will happen when it was meant to, without trying to force it.

I've recently started wearing the cone at night and though I haven't seen any changes like I've seen some guys get the skin peeling, etc , I am definitely noticing a difference in the skin texture of the head of my penis.
