Should i call hooters

We're all supportive about everything we're doing. Speaking of feminism, what does the word mean to you and do you consider yourself one? There are a lot of women who think that if you work at a place like Hooters where your body is on display, you can't be a feminist.

I understand where women are coming from when they say that, but what I think about it is that women have equal rights and opportunities, and it's about bringing women up, not bringing them down — supporting each other. It's a woman's choice to use her looks for money or to pay their rent every month or to pay for school. It's like models. They're using their looks to pay for their rent.

For most of us, this is our halfway point. This is what's paying for us to go to school so that we can get jobs after this. It's more than looks. It's more than what you have on the outside.

I met all these women there who are there to empower each other and not bring each other down. When I think of feminism, I think of empowering other women. Where are we going to get if we just bring each other down? Ashley Yonan, 24, is now working full time in PR. She worked at a Hooters in Santa Monica, California, for two years during college.

When did you start working at Hooters and why? I was 20 years old and I was in college. My body type always fit the profile of a Hooters girl. So I applied as a joke, but I also needed a job to put myself through college.

I had never set foot in a Hooters before the day I applied, actually. Are they explicit about the type of woman they're looking for? There's definitely a stereotypical image of what a Hooters girl looks like. Yeah, absolutely. We were held to certain image standards. They presented it as a modeling job. Yes, you were servers, but we upheld this other role where we were acting.

That's the role I took on when I put on the uniform. I became a character, a character that really helped me develop my own personal sense of self.

It was never unclear to me what my role was going to be or what was expected of me when I was working there. When you start there, do you get trained on how to deal with customers?

I started as a hostess and then trained for two weeks as a waitress after two months. I don't think we received any specific guidelines on how to deal with disrespectful customers, but you see how our trainer interacted with them, and you'd learn by example what is OK and what's not OK. This one girl that I used to work with would sit on the customers' laps, which is forbidden. You're not supposed to touch them, unless it's a hand around the waist in a photo.

You can't hug males. But she would sit on the customers' laps. The girls were actually really upset about it. It was a community environment that fostered a safe working environment. It was frowned upon because the other girls were like, "I don't want the customers to think that that's the norm. Were you comfortable with the uniform when you first had to wear it? Oh, yeah. At first I wasn't used to wearing such a form-fitting outfit in public and I was like, "I look like a sausage!

In two years at Hooters I even gained 5 pounds by the end of it. That'a a lot on a 5-foot-2 frame. I got curvier in my uniform but I felt better because Hooters gave me that self-esteem to own my body and my sexuality.

How did guys generally act around you at Hooters? Most guys were surprisingly shy when you talk to them. Some guys are disrespectful, but I feel like you're going to get that first off as a woman — you're going to get that whether you're on the street or at school or wherever. Most people are pretty respectful. It's a sexually charged atmosphere so there may be a few innuendos, but being a Hooters girl, you kind of can't be offended by that because you signed up for this and you are embracing that sexual atmosphere.

You can't go into it being like, "Oh, no, nothing sexual is ever going to happen. What's the worst experience you've had with a guy there? In the two years I was there, only one of the girls was ever touched. A guy grabbed her butt and he got thrown out. Wear a outfit similar to what you wore when you inquired about an application. Emphasize your perpetually cheerful disposition. Most job ads for Hooters Girls state that they must be "fun, upbeat, and entertaining.

Talk about your people skills and how you make conversation with strangers. You will probably be asked questions about your past work experiences, how you approach customer service, how you handle stressful situations or work in a team, your schedule and availability, etc. Sign the Acknowledgment form. If you are offered a position, you will need to sign the Acknowledgment form, which states that you understand that Hooters' work environment is "one in which joking and innuendo based on female sex appeal is commonplace.

Part 2. Wear your uniform appropriately. According to the Hooters Employee Handbook, your tank top must be tucked into your shorts at all times. Do not reveal your midriff. You must wear a white or nude bra and it can't be visible to customers.

If your skin is a darker shade than Suntan, you can select a darker shade. You are not allowed to wear a lighter shade of pantyhose than Suntan. The sneakers cannot be in any other color than white and they should be a "high top" style. You are not allowed to wear the Hooters uniform anywhere outside of Hooters. It should not be visible when you are outside the restaurant. You will be provided one uniform but then you are required to buy any extra pieces should your uniform become dirty or frayed.

Maintain the correct hairstyle. The Hooters Handbook strictly prohibits wearing a ponytail or pigtails, hats or headbands. Hair is supposed to be done in a "glamorous" style, which suggests hair is worn down and long with full volume. You should also try back combing the roots of your hair, brushing it out, and then spraying it with hairspray to add extra volume.

Accentuate your features with makeup. Makeup is also a required component of your appearance while at Hooters. Your makeup must be, according to the handbook, "camera ready at all times. Your makeup should be wholesome, yet sexy. For lips, stick to colors like pink, coral and rose tones. Avoid dark wine or plum lip shades. For eyeshadow, consider more neutral tones of brown and gray.

Do not try anything too dramatic like a bright blue or purple or overwhelming like a 60s eye flick or a very smoky eye. You are encouraged to think of yourself not simply as a waitress, but rather as a model who has been "cast" to play the glamorous guide through your customer's pantheon of Hooters-rooted fantasies.

Wear the appropriate amount of jewelry. Hooters encourages minimal jewelry; its handbook limits it to one necklace, two rings per hand and two earrings per ear. Chokers and tongue piercings are prohibited. Maintain appropriate nails. For Hooters Girls, nails must be clean and pretty, done in French manicure or nude color. If you wear false nails, make sure they look clean and get them re-done when they start to chip or break off.

Avoid anything that suggests you might have slightly eccentric tastes. Be punctual and professional. Always show up for your shift on time and be prepared to help out your co-workers when scheduling conflicts arise. Most women who work as Hooters Girls have lots of other responsibilities, from working through college to raising families.

If you have periods where you can take on extra shifts -- like during a school break -- then try to help other co-workers who might have other demands on their time. Know your customers. Unlike other chain restaurants, Hooters encourages waitresses to have a personal rapport with their customers. Make conversation with them and give them personalized attention.

Do not complain, make offensive jokes or use profanity. Do not touch your customers. Most restaurants stipulate you can only touch customers when putting a hand around their waist in a picture. Handle everything for your customers. This is what Hooters calls its "hands off" approach. If your customers order a pitcher of beer, pour it for them individually.

Open every container for them. How long does it take to get hired from start to finish at Hooters? What are the steps along the way? Asked December 20, Answered December 20, Are there men bartenders?
