Solid analysis and I agree with it all. Reed as well. Also, by leaving out the last line of this poem, it really shows how a single thought can have such a large effect on the tone of the whole piece. Great job. Like so many last lines in poetry it is the most important line: the fat lady most often with the true meaning.

I really enjoyed your analysis and have to say that i am not the pessimistic generation. I really felt moved by what this poem said, and your comments and advice on reading it backwards make it even more powerful, and your deduction of the cynical manner of the poem are very accurate.

I do not concede that Thirty years from now, I will be celebrating the tenth anniversary of my divorce. Experts tell me This is a quick fix society But this will not be true in my era. And I refuse to believe that I am part of a lost generation. We Are hiring! It is foolish to presume that There is hope. The first time I read this poem, aside from the suspicious wording, I found a common topic that has been bothering not only me, but most students that are living in my generation.

On average I see my family and friends for maybe half an hour every weekday outside of school, if not less. My father works an engineering job 12 hours every single day just to ensure bills are being paid and a roof is over our heads.

But when I read the poem backward, I feel all those misconceptions about my generation are being washed away, because there are still people in my generation that believe in change, hope, and a brighter future.
