Tasha's Cauldron of Everything has added the "Customizing Your Origin" option that may affect the ability score increases, languages, and proficiencies in this guide. Bold and hardy, dwarves are known as skilled warriors, miners, and workers of stone and metal. Though they stand well under 5 feet tall, dwarves are so broad and compact that they can weigh as much as a human standing nearly two feet taller.
Their courage and endurance are also easily a match for any of the larger folk. Dwarven skin ranges from deep brown to a paler hue tinged with red, but the most common shades are light brown or deep tan, like certain tones of earth.
Their hair, worn long but in simple styles, is usually black, gray, or brown, though paler dwarves often have red hair. Male dwarves value their beards highly and groom them carefully. Speed : 25ft walking is below standard.
Only Dwarves and Gnomes have this reduced speed. Dwarven Resilience : Free resistance to a common damage type and condition is always welcome. That being said, Dwarves, no matter what, are stoic. They believe strongly in following their own moral compass, whether that is good or bad, and will always stick to their principles.
This makes Dwarves strong — not just physically but mentally and emotionally. They are solid characters, both in their physicality and their steadfastness. This makes them a great centrepieces for the party, being both reliable and sturdy at the same time.
This whole article has been a bit of an unfocused love letter to the Dwarvish race; however the point should be very clear.
They get some awesome bonuses and, if you only take one thing away from this article, take away that Dwarven Armour Training and Dwarven Weapon Training are incredibly valuable traits.
They make Dwarves forces to be reckoned with, no matter what class you decide to go with. Those two bonuses alone give Dwarves a significant combat bonus. It allows for you to use your valuable dice roles for other stats to specialise as the class you want, and still be as hardy as you can with the bonuses. Do you like Dwarves or do you prefer other races? Let me know in the comments below.

When writing fantasy fiction, I felt it was imperative that I featured some distinctive dwarves in the cast Originally, Gandalf was one of the most notable dwarves in Norse mythology — Tolkien could not resist borrowing the name!

I love dwarves, so happy Wildhammer customisations happening, but would like a younger look. Belts and Helmets are always hit and miss, on any race. I admit, a version without a beard, or some of the human beards, would be nice. They cover up too much of the male chest. I mean, there are some nice looking armors … and then the beard covers it. The ability to heal in combat is neat, but this feat decreases in value as you gain levels.
Maybe a dwarf ranger or rogue could take it while raising their Dexterity from 19 to 20, but that seems unlikely. Dragonmarks are detailed in Eberron: Rising from the Last War. Dwarves treat dragonmarks like a subrace, retaining their core racial traits and adding the traits provided by the dragonmark.
Constitution and Intelligence are an interesting combination. The extra Constitution can be very helpful for spellcasters who frequently find themselves drawing fire like front-line artificers or eldritch knights. The spell list also overlaps heavily with spells already available to spellcasting classes which depend on intelligence, though it notably includes Armor of Agathys to tempt melee spellcasters.
