The alternate program of interest policy allows us to place the greatest number of exceptional and passionate students into degree bearing programs at NYU. Decision Information. Offer of Admission Please send our congratulations on to your student, and know that our applicant pool was exceptionally competitive this year.
Offer of Admission to an Alternate Program of Interest Our Common Application member questions allow students to indicate their primary program of interest, as well as alternate programs for which they would like to be considered. Waitlist Students may also be placed on our waitlist during Early Decision I. Denial If your student is denied admission to NYU and continues to express interest in our university, he or she may apply again during a different admissions cycle — either as a new first year if the student takes a gap year, or as a transfer student if the student pursues any coursework at any university in the interim.
Primary Program of Interest Students who are really only interested in one school, college, or campus at NYU should list this as their primary program of interest. Alternate Program of Interest Each year we receive applications from many more qualified applicants than we have space available for at the University. You will be reviewed for the new program and notified of a decision shortly.
If you are sure you do not want to attend the program you were admitted do not confirm or cancel your spot. If you still plan to study away at the location you were admitted if not allowed to switch programs, it is advised you confirm your spot.
You can only have one application on file with Global Programs per term. If you would like to reactivate your application, you must contact global. Your admission to the program will be dependent on space and immigration restrictions and is not guaranteed. If you are certain that no other program except your first choice program will be an option, you can request to be put on a wait list.
By going on the wait list, you will be forfeiting your spot in your second choice or any other available program. The wait list is not a first come first serve process. As space becomes available, we will review all students as part of a larger pool.
If we determine that we are able to add students to the cohort, we will review the entire pool and consider the academic requirements of the applicants, in addition to the academic strength of each student, to identify who would be most eligible to receive the offer. We review the wait list cohort as a pool because we want to make the best choice possible, taking into account course preferences and class capacity.
Early Decision. What You Need to Know If you are certain that NYU is the right school for you, you may want to consider applying through early decision. How does early decision work at NYU? There are only two exceptions to the information above: If you are awarded a financial aid package that does not meet enough of your financial need to allow you to attend. In this case, you may request to be released from the agreement.
If you are admitted to a school, program, or campus of NYU that was not designated as your primary interest on your application, you are not required to enroll. Depending on your situation, you may also follow these recommendations if you intend on applying to NYU. If your standardized testing results will be delayed for any reason beyond your control, you can self-report your scores by emailing a screenshot of them to us at admissions.
This will enable us to expedite our review of your application, but you must send official test scores before an offer of admission can be extended. We will be as flexible as possible when waiting for supporting application materials such as transcripts or teacher evaluations. Certain materials are required to enroll at NYU, so please be in contact with our office should you expect any materials to be delayed.
On a case-by-case basis, we will consider application extensions for any student affected by a natural disaster, circumstances imposed by national governments, or any extreme extenuating circumstances. Please contact your regional admissions officer with a request for an extension before or shortly after our application deadline. Visiting student programs are ideal for high school graduates, professionals, and students from other colleges and universities.
